“Newcastle Players Were Furious!” – Keith Hackett Delivers Verdict on Controversial Everton Star Incident After Carabao Cup Clash

Dewsbury-Hall Shines as Everton Cruise Past Newcastle, But Former Referee Makes Important Penalty Admission

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall delivered an outstanding all-round performance as Everton secured an impressive 3-1 victory over Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup, booking their place in the quarter-finals.

The midfielder was instrumental throughout the contest at Hill Dickinson Stadium, influencing proceedings at both ends of the pitch as David Moyes’ side produced a convincing display.

James Garner opened the scoring before Hayden Hackney extended Everton’s advantage, while Thierno Barry completed the job with a third goal. The result secured the Toffees a quarter-final meeting with Fleetwood.

Dewsbury-Hall was particularly impressive, providing the assist for Barry’s goal while also demonstrating his defensive qualities when Everton came under pressure.

One of the biggest talking points involved his challenge on Harvey Barnes inside the penalty area. Newcastle players immediately protested, believing they deserved a spot-kick, but referee Farai Hallam dismissed their appeals.

Former PGMOL Chief Explains Why Newcastle Were Wrong to Demand a Penalty

Despite Newcastle’s frustration, former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett believes Hallam made the correct decision by refusing to award a penalty.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Hackett praised the referee’s positioning and decision-making, insisting that both Newcastle players went to ground too easily.

He also suggested that one of the incidents could have resulted in a booking for simulation.

Hackett said:

“Farai Hallam is proving to be an outstanding referee with a great future ahead of him.

“He was ideally positioned in both these challenges to turn down the appeals for a penalty kick.

“The first challenge saw the number 10 go to ground too easily, and he was fortunate not to receive a yellow card for a clear act of simulation.

“In the same phase, his teammate also went to ground rather easily. I have no doubt that incident would have been reviewed by VAR.

“However, the referee was again in a good position and correctly rejected the appeals. I support his decision.”

His assessment will come as a disappointment to Newcastle supporters, who felt their team should have been awarded a penalty during the encounter.

Everton and Newcastle Prepare for Another Fiery Encounter at St James’ Park

Interestingly, Everton and Newcastle will not have to wait long before meeting again, with the two sides scheduled to face each other in the Premier League at St James’ Park on Monday.

The closing stages of their Carabao Cup encounter have already added extra excitement ahead of the upcoming meeting.

Although Dan Burn managed to score a consolation goal for Newcastle, tensions boiled over as the defender and Joelinton became involved in an angry confrontation with Jordan Pickford and James Tarkowski.

There was plenty of pushing, pulling and heated exchanges between the players, forcing referee Hallam to intervene.

All four players eventually received yellow cards, bringing an eventful ending to an already competitive contest.

With emotions running high and both teams having plenty to prove, Monday’s Premier League meeting at St James’ Park is shaping up to be another fascinating encounter.
